Jesus: The Believer’s Inheritance

It is fascinating to observe when people talk about inheritance, ones mind would immediately cater properties, wills, houses, jewelries, and other material things. All of which are centered on material temporal things.   In 1 Peter 1:4 , although The Apostle Peter used the term “inheritance” once in his letter, Apostle Paul on the other hand, mentioned this term in his letters several times. ( Eph_1:14 , Eph_1:18 , Eph_5:5 , Col_3:24 ,) But what is so significant about this particular emphasis of Peter? After all, he made a brief description of the inheritance (verse 4-5) a believer will obtain now that he is part of God’s family.   The term “inheritance” is not something new among Jewish ears. Going back to the OT, when God divided the promised land among the 12 tribes of Israel, every tribe received a portion of the land as their inheritance, except for the tribe of Levi…”the priestly tribe”. They were the only tribe that didn’t get one. God’s reason for doing so is interesting. Th

What is your Definition of Success?

After giving an overview of the book of Joshua, Pastor Sidney focused on chapter one. Two questions he posed remain in my mind: (1) “What is ‘success?'” and (2) “Who is your ‘God?'” Think about it: your definition of “success” can actually reveal who your “God” is.  For example, if “success” to you means being wealthy, then your pursuit of riches reveals that money is your “god.”

In Joshua 1, we are reminded that true success is in knowing and obeying the Word of God (Joshua 1:8).  Joshua himself challenged the Israelites to choose whom they will serve (Joshua 24:15).  Just remember: “Our woes began when God was forced out of His central shrine and things were allowed to enter. Within the human heart things have taken over.  Men have now by nature no peace within their hearts, for God is crowned there no longer, but there in the moral dusk, stubborn and aggressive usurpers fight among themselves for first place on the throne”  (The Pursuit of God, 22).

As Pastor Sidney would often say, “How are you today?” May we repent from having placed “idols” in our hearts where the Lord Jesus Christ should be King.

–Anna Capillas for Pastor Sidney who sends his gratitude to each one of you who came today and to each one of you who prayed. Thank you!
