Jesus: The Believer’s Inheritance

Image
It is fascinating to observe when people talk about inheritance, ones mind would immediately cater properties, wills, houses, jewelries, and other material things. All of which are centered on material temporal things.   In 1 Peter 1:4 , although The Apostle Peter used the term “inheritance” once in his letter, Apostle Paul on the other hand, mentioned this term in his letters several times. ( Eph_1:14 , Eph_1:18 , Eph_5:5 , Col_3:24 ,) But what is so significant about this particular emphasis of Peter? After all, he made a brief description of the inheritance (verse 4-5) a believer will obtain now that he is part of God’s family.   The term “inheritance” is not something new among Jewish ears. Going back to the OT, when God divided the promised land among the 12 tribes of Israel, every tribe received a portion of the land as their inheritance, except for the tribe of Levi…”the priestly tribe”. They were the only tribe that didn’t get one. God’s reason for doing so is interesting. Th

A Parent's Prayer

A Parent’s Prayer Newspaper columnist Abigail Van Buren has composed a “Parent’s Prayer” in which she stresses the practical side of raising children. Says “Dear Abby”: “Oh, heavenly Father, make me a better parent. Teach me to understand my children, to listen patiently to what they have to say, and to answer all their questions kindly. Keep me from interrupting them or contradicting them. Make me as courteous to them as I would have them be to me. Forbid that I should ever laugh at their mistakes, or resort to shame or ridicule when they displease me. May I never punish them for my own selfish satisfaction or to show my power. “Let me not tempt my child to lie or steal. And guide me hour by hour that I may demonstrate by all I say and do that honesty produces happiness. “Reduce, I pray, the meanness in me. And when I am out of sorts, help me, O Lord, to hold my tongue. “May I ever be mindful that my children are children and I should not expect of them the judgment of adults. “Let me

Preparing To Meet God (Part 2)

The LORD also said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments; and let them be ready for the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘Beware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether beast or man, he shall not live.’ When the ram’s horn sounds a long blast, they shall come up to the mountain.” (Exodus 19:10-13) In part one, we learned about God’s holiness, might and power. By His mere presence, the earth trembled. When the Lord descended, the people shook in fear as they saw bright lightning flashes and heard the powerful sound of thunder and of a trumpet (Exodus 19:16). As a nation, Israel, for the first time, witnessed the coming of their God and Rede

Mother's Day Prayer

Mother’s Day Prayer My mom, I love her And that’s why I pray Not just today on this Mother’s Day But with each remembrance Of the love she’s expressed My thankfulness to the Lord I’ve professed For my life began In a warm and safe place Then grew more secure in Mom’s tender embrace When I was little She taught me to crawl Then to walk and run, and get up when I fall Nurtured and cared for She raised me to stand Lifted, supported, by her loving hand She believed in me Inspired me to dream Nothing was impossible for me, it seemed It was her example That pointed the way To the life in Christ I know today My mom, I love her On this Mother’s Day She’s the reason I’m taking this moment to pray My mom, I love her Let her know, dear Lord Please bless her with the most abundant reward – Mary Fairchild Source: http://christianity.about.com/od/mothersday/qt/mothersdayprayer.htm

Ten Commandments of Human Relations

As I was preparing for my Sunday message on the Ten Commandments, I came across this interesting illustration entitled “Ten Commandments of Human Relations.” I can’t help but smile because there’s a truth behind this list of commands with regards to human relationships. Ten Commandments of Human Relations 1. Speak to people. There is nothing as nice as a cheerful word of greeting. 2. Smile at people. It takes 72 muscles to frown; 14 to smile. 3. Call people by name. The sweetest music is the sound of his own name. 4. Be friendly and helpful. 5. Be cordial. Speak and act as if everything you do is a genuine pleasure. 6. Be genuinely interested in people. You can like everybody if you try. 7. Be generous with praise—cautious with criticism. 8. Be considerate of the feelings of others. It will be appreciated. 9. Be thoughtful of the opinions of others. There are three sides to a controversy—yours, the other fellow’s, and the right one. 10. Be alert to give service. What counts most in lif
